Rylstone and Cracoe are two villages situated beneath Barden Fell and the twin skyline landmarks of Rylstone Cross and Cracoe Pinnacle, lying along the B6265 road between Skipton and Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Rylstone is currently most famous for being the original home of the Rylstone Women's Institute - whose members achieved fame by posing nude for a celebrated charity calendar. Their story was made into a film called "Calendar Girls" starring Julie Walters and Helen Mirren (many of the outdoor sequences actually being shot at another dales village, that of Kettlewell at the foot of Park Rash in nearby Wharfedale).
Between Cracoe and nearby Burnsall in Wharfedale are a series of limestone hills which are known as the Cracoe Reef Knolls - geological remnants of an ancient coral reef which formed in a shallow prehistoric sea hundereds of millions of years ago.
