Weathercote Cave

Once a former show cave, Weathercote Cave is actually a pothole in the village of Chapel le Dale near Ingleton

The entrance is a spectacular chasm in to which a waterfall crashes, and the scene was painted by Turner c. 1818. Above the waterfall is a large boulder which is known as "Mohammed's Coffin".

In days gone by an entrance fee was charged to visitors, though Weathercote Cave is on private land and is now closed to the public.
