The Roman Wall
The Romans had a military presence in Ilkley from around 79 A.D. and called their outpost here "Olicana". A fort was constructed near the river, though little evidence of this can now be seen. There is however a short section of the base of a Roman wall (pictured above) in the grounds of the Manor House museum which now occupies the site.
