Cow Green Reservoir is a large reservoir on bleak open moorland near the head of Teesdale, overlooked by the broad massifs of Mickle Fell and Cronkley Fell to the south and south west.

Immediately downstream of the reservoir is Cauldron Snout - where the infant River Tees tumbles down the fellside in a dramatic series of cataracts.
