The Ebbing and Flowing Well
Situated in woods at the side of the road which runs beneath Giggleswick Scar near Giggleswick is the Ebbing and Flowing Well - so called because the waters are reputed to occassionally (and mysteriously) "ebb and flow".
The cause of the ebbing and flowing (which seems to be an increasingly rare phenomenon) is unknown, and various theories have been put forward - including one that its activity is somehow connected with the tides in Morecambe Bay. It is much more likely, however, that the action of an underground syphon provides the most likely explanation.
