Things to do in the Yorkshire Dales

Walking in the Yorkshire Dales Mountain biking in the Yorkshire Dales

General activities available in and around the Yorkshire Dales include walking and rambling, birdwatching, golfing, swimming and road cycling (the latter being particularly popular in Yorkshire at the moment - with the region having hosted the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014).

Adventure pursuits in the Yorkshire Dales include caving and potholing, rock climbing, mountain biking, fell running, paragliding, motor sports (including the famous Harewood Hill Climb at Harewood at the edge of the dales), off-roading, wild swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking, canyoning, horse riding and even hot air ballooning!

With beautiful and photogenic scenery (as shown in the separate views section), the Yorkshire Dales area is naturally also popular with artists and photographers, and has served as inspiration for world famous poets, writers, film-makers and artists (including William Wordsworth and J.M.W. Turner).
