Ribblesdale

Looking up Ribblesdale from above Langcliffe

One of the western dales whose river (the Ribble) drains into the Irish Sea, Ribblesdale runs south from Ribblehead down between the high fells of Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent (two of the area's famous "Three Peaks") through Selside, Horton in Ribblesdale, Helwith Bridge, Stainforth and Langcliffe and on past the market town of Settle.

South of here the landscape becomes gentler as the Ribble passes out of the Yorkshire Dales and along the Ribble Valley which passes between the moors of Bowland and Pendle Witch Country en route to Preston and the Irish Sea.
