10th anniversary Legacy Ride brings cycling action back to the dales

Sunday 7th July 2024 saw cyclists take part in a special charity Legacy Ride to mark the 10th anniversary of the Grand Depart of the Tour de France which took place in Yorkshire over the weekend of the 5th and the 6th July 2014.

Several shortened variations on the original route were taken by the entrants, with some even choosing to take on the challenge of the complete day one stage. Starting out from Leeds through the Yorkshire Dales via Ilkley, Skipton, Grassington, Kettlewell, Kidstones Pass, Aysgarth, Hawes, Buttertubs Pass, Reeth, Leyburn, Masham and Ripon - taking in Wharfedale, Bishopdale, Wensleydale and Swaledale along the way.

The event raised money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and a special Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal for a new centre for motor neurone disease (MND), which will be named after Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow who was diagnosed with the condition in 2019. Sadly Rob died just before the Legacy Ride event and by coincidence his funeral took place the same day.
